|Hunt for killers after sports bar brawl
ABC News (National Metropolitan, 2 February 2009)
Police are searching for four men who they say stabbed two others to death outside a south-west Sydney pub last night.
Police say the victims, aged 28 and 30, were drinking in the Oscars Grill and Sports Bar on Chapel Road in Bankstown last night when a group of four walked past.
It is not known what happened next but the victims came outside and were stabbed several times in the chest, stomach and back.
They staggered inside after the attack, where staff tried to give first aid and called 000 about 9:20pm (AEDT).
Paramedics tried to revive the men but they were pronounced dead on arrival at Liverpool Hospital.
Police are yet to find a motive for the attack. Acting Superintendent Ian Pryde says it is possible the victims had just won money on the poker machines and were attacked for the cash.
He says the offenders and victims were of south-east Asian origin.
Police have identified one of the victims but say they cannot release his name yet because his family has not been told.
They are looking at CCTV footage to see if they can obtain a clear picture of the offenders, who they believe to be between 16 and 25 years old.
Detectives have taken knives found at the scene.
A Bankstown local says he is not surprised by the latest stabbing in the area because his friend was stabbed nearby last week.
"I walked around a corner here and there was a stabbing here and I thought that was bad enough. Now another one, it's really bad," he said.
"I know there's this problem in the area but I've always felt safe, but I'm not so sure anymore."
Detectives have spoken to a number of witnesses at the scene and some at Bankstown Police Station, but they need more information.
They are calling on any more witnesses to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. | End
